Liberating Rhonda is a Sixties coming-of-age tale featuring Rhonda and Gwen, her BFF and their hormonal curiosities about guys, romance, and relationships…p 66
A chilly night in the lower fifties, Rhonda initially considered jeans but in the end, wore her long wool coat, a grey below-the-knee wool skirt, a white long-sleeve pullover under a front-buttoned sleeveless sweater, to go with her knee-high boots. The more layers and barriers are worn the better she liked it, for a couple reasons.
Much to her relief, she passed no familiar cars or people while hurrying to her forest rendezvous with Marc.
Approaching the thick dark tall pine trees, the dense blackness made Rhonda uncomfortable. Twigs crackled as something moved slowly through the brush. Owls hooted from the branches high above. Doubts began to crowd her mind. Stomach churning, her breathing picked up as she heard the continuous snapping sounds. What if it was a bear? A mountain lion?
Enough time had been spent at the local lake and forests with her father to know considerable wildlife roamed the area, at least a few brown bears and bobcats, let alone skunks. Rhonda could just imagine getting sprayed by a skunk in the woods in the middle of the night. Trying to explain that one to her mom would be impossible.
Fifty yards from the forest she spotted a silhouette standing at the edge, looking in her direction. Her heart skipped a beat.
“Marc? Is that you?” her voice hushed and tentative as she slowly approached.
